Boxelder Bug Care
Pest Care Guide
About This Pest
Why They're Here
Boxelder bugs spend the summer feeding on boxelder and maple trees. When fall arrives, they look for warm spots to overwinter — and your sunny exterior walls are very inviting to them.
What to Watch For
Groups of flat, dark bugs with red-orange markings clustered on the sunny side of your house, especially around windows and doors in fall.
Our Natural Approach
Targeted Treatment
We use targeted, least-toxic treatments — botanical and mineral-based as the primary approach — to address the source of the problem, not just the symptoms. Our approach focuses on long-term results, not quick fixes.
Family-Conscious Formulas
Our primary toolkit is botanical and mineral-based, formulated to minimize risk to your family and pets. No synthetic pyrethroid sprays. Products are either EPA 25(b) exempt (essential-oil based) or EPA-registered minimum-risk pesticides (silica gel, borate).
How You Can Help
  • Seal cracks around windows, doors, and siding before fall.
  • Repair or replace damaged screens.
  • Vacuum up any that get inside rather than squishing them.
  • Remove boxelder tree seed pods from your yard if practical.
Family & Pet Considerations
Our treatments use botanical and mineral-based products to minimize risk to your family — children and pets included. Products are either EPA 25(b) exempt or EPA-registered minimum-risk. If we ever recommend an EPA-registered escalation product, we'll show you the label and explain it before applying.
