Earwig Treatment
What Was Applied Today & What to Expect
What We Applied Today
📰
Newspaper & Tube Traps
Dampened rolled newspaper and cardboard tube traps were placed along your foundation perimeter and near entry points. Earwigs shelter inside overnight — collect and dispose each morning into soapy water.
💨
Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth
A thin band of food-grade DE was applied along the exterior foundation line and in dry cracks at the sill plate. This physically damages exoskeletons without chemical toxicity.
🌿
Botanical Perimeter Spray
Peppermint oil spray was applied at exterior door frames, window frames, and utility penetrations as a deterrent. This supplement works alongside harborage removal and exclusion.
What to Expect
📉
Trap catches declining over 1–2 weeks
As harborage is removed and entry points are sealed, newspaper trap catches will drop steadily. High-catch traps indicate nearby harborage to address.
🌧️
Brief spikes after heavy rain
Earwigs may temporarily increase indoors after heavy rain — this is normal seasonal migration. Exclusion prevents most from entering.
Full resolution in 2–4 weeks
With harborage removed, moisture reduced, and entry points sealed, indoor earwig sightings should stop. They’ll remain in the garden where they’re beneficial.
Your Role in This Treatment
  • Pull mulch back 6–12 inches from the foundation and remove leaf litter, stacked boards, and debris.
  • Collect newspaper traps each morning and shake into soapy water. Replace nightly.
  • Switch porch lights to yellow or sodium bulbs to reduce attraction.
  • Do not disturb DE along the foundation — reapply after rain or heavy watering.
✓ Safe for Family & Pets
Newspaper traps are completely non-toxic. Food-grade DE was applied along the exterior foundation only. Botanical spray is plant-oil based and safe once dry. No synthetic chemicals were used.

Indoor sightings continue after 3 weeks, or if earwigs appear in new rooms. This may indicate an unsealed entry point or persistent moisture source we need to address.
